If there has ever been a time to pamper yourself, now is the time for a little extra TLC. While all births are different, there are a few key items that’ll be helpful to have on hand.
Are all items on the list below necessary? No. Your delivery team will have you covered with any immediate care, but you may prefer to choose some of the additional or upgraded postpartum essentials below.
Pro tip: consider stocking up at a store with a flexible return policy, so you can return items that go unused.
All Birth Essentials
- Healthy snacks, for whenever you need a little pick-me-up
- Comfortable clothing, easy to remove if nursing

Acetaminophen (we recommend Genexa)
- Most women can take an acetaminophen occasionally, when needed, during pregnancy & postpartum. Consult your doctor first and use sparingly.
- Avoid NSAIDs such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and aspirin unless prescribed by your doctor.
Nursing Essentials
- Nursing & pumping bras
